Prototyping Product Packaging
The Brief
The company was tendering for business from SC Johnson for their Mr Muscle product and needed to develop 20 samples for product packaging as part of their bid. Producing each sample in-house would have been expensive and created costly delays on the production line, so the company found a more rapid and cost-effective alternative through a partnership with the South Eastern Regional College.
The Solution
South Eastern Regional College helped Canyon, world-leading manufacturer of trigger sprayers, industrial sprayers and dispensers win a three year contract to supply five million nozzles a month to SC Johnson.
Using designs supplied by the Canyon Europe, the College created 20 prototype samples of varied shapes, sizes and triggers at a fraction of the price. The company were then able to present all the samples to the manufacturer who decided which was most suitable for their customers.
The Outcome
“We are delighted our partnership with the South Eastern Regional College helped us secure the contract with SC Johnson who have been very impressed with the quality of our prototypes,” said Neil Ryan, product development manager at Canyon Europe.
“Not only did the prototypes allow the customer to see and feel the new designs, but the speed at which we were able to provide these samples to them was also key in obtaining the new business” Neil added.
The contract win has partly been attributed to product prototyping carried out by expert staff at specialist facilities in the College.
