Design and Production of New Product
The Brief
Belfast-based engineering firm, Red Raven, was formed in 2004 by former mountain bike champion Jonathan Knight. Red Raven choose SERC to help with the invention, design and production of an after-market goggle system which will solve the problem of keeping riders’ goggles clean during off-road cycling and racing. The new product is known as ‘Speedview’.
The Solution
The prototype built by SERC has undergone rigorous testing and Red Raven and Red Raven have successfully brought the product to market. The product is being sold throughout the UK with large orders being placed by distributors.
The Outcome
With Speedview fitted to a racer’s open-face helmet the remotely-activated motorised cleaning system is activated by pushing a button on the bike’s handlebars with the thumb, immediately giving the rider a clear view of what’s ahead. Not only is Speedview of value to the racer from a time point of view but also improves safety with the rider’s hands never having to leave the handlebars.
