Do you or someone you know find it hard to read, write or work with numbers? If so, don’t worry. Did you know that one in four adults need to improve their English and Maths skills to get on at home, work or in life?

Why not let South Eastern Regional College help you get the Know How. We offer courses on Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy and also IT.

What’s it all about?

Literacy, Numeracy and ICT - (English, Maths and Computing)

  • We offer five different levels of qualification – there will always be a class to suit you!
  • Level 2 – equivalent to GCSE English/Maths/ICT
  • Level 1, Entry Level 3, Entry Level 2 and Entry Level 1
  • All classes are FREE
  • Classes available in the College, in community venues or in the workplace
  • Small informal classes – adults only – during the day and in the evening
  • Experienced tutors who will use your personal interests to help develop your skills and gain a qualification

In Numeracy – you will learn:

  • How to calculate percentages
  • How to use fractions
  • An easy way to multiply
  • Subtraction made simple
  • How to read charts and graphs
  • How to convert metres to centimetres, pounds to Euros, kilos to pounds

How could this help you?

  • To check that you are given the correct change
  • To calculate the cost of an item in the sales
  • To calculate loan interest
  • To calculate the cost of a new carpet or of decorating a room
  • To work out the cost of a meal when being charged in Euros
  • To check percentages on your credit card statement
  • To work out sums in your head more easily
  • To help your child with their Maths homework

In Literacy – you will learn:

  • How to read with confidence
  • How to write different types of letters
  • How to complete forms correctly
  • How to remember spellings and to punctuate a sentence
  • How to speak with confidence

How could this help you?

  • To write a letter of complaint
  • To write a letter of sympathy
  • To complete forms for Social Security, Housing Executive or the NHS
  • To write to the bank or your child’s school
  • To read newspaper articles
  • To keep up-to-date with current affairs
  • To prepare for an interview, discussion with your child’s teacher, talking on the phone
  • To help your child with their English homework

In ICT - you will learn:

  • How to find information on the internet
  • How to creat folders to store documents
  • How to send, read and reply to emails
  • How to use Microsoft Word

How could this help you?

  • To search for products and services on the internet
  • To send and receive emails
  • To type a letter
  • To store digital photographs in folders
