Bangor Campus students meet London film festival director

Media Production students from South Eastern Regional College recently had the pleasure of welcoming Louis Savy, founder of the London Sci-fi Film Festival to the College.  Louis was invited to the College as part of the Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People and was asked to carry out a workshop on the London Sci-fi Film Festival.

While at the College Louis spoke to students about the London Sci-fi Film Festival and about short film making, he discussed what it takes to make a Sci-fi film and the importance of imagination and enthusiasm over big budgets and effects.

Sci-fi London is the UK’s leading genre event and an internationally recognised launch pad for genre movies. The Festival was started by Festival director Louis Savy "because there wasn't one".

"The festival started primarily because there wasn't anywhere for low-budget, interesting or foreign science fiction films. Its purpose was to show films that you're not likely to see in the UK at all, or that are going to be difficult to get hold of." says Louis.

The students left inspired by the possibilities of the Sci-fi genre and the realisation that to succeed within this industry is based upon creativity and enthusiasm.   Louis time spent with the students will be invaluable as they continue their studies and pursue a career with the media production industry.
