The first cohort of students studying on the Job Club course at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) received City and Guilds Employability and Personal Development certificates in recognition of their progress, development and success during their first year with the College.
The Job Club course is designed to enable students to progress either to employment be it full-time, part-time or voluntary or to another course of study. During their time with the College students study modules including managing personal finance, career planning, qualities and attitudes for learning and work and ICT. The course has very strong links with Mencap who organize and monitor work placements in the hospitality, retail or childcare industries for many of the students.
Student Lena Welsh, who is completing her work experience at Café Vic Ryn in Lisburn commented about her time on the course; “It’s a really enjoyable course, I have gained a lot of confidence and improved my numeracy skills. I have really enjoyed meeting new people at SERC and on work placement.”
Course Coordinator Adele McSherry had this to say; “I am really pleased to present certificates of completion to the students. They have all worked very hard throughout the year and have developed into mature young adults with a vision for their own future. They have all been supported by Mencap in their work placements and this has helped to improve their confidence and their personal skills.”
