 Local chef prepares culinary delights

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) last week had the privilege of welcoming top local chef Stephen Jeffers to the Colleges’ Birches Restaurant where along with the able assistance of College catering students, he prepared a four course meal for over forty people.

Stephen, who is regarded as one of the top chefs in Northern Ireland, found fame with his highly regarded restaurants Jeffers by the Marine in Bangor and Jeffers Bar and Grill at Castlereagh Hills Golf Club.  More recently he has published his own cookery book, 'Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner' The gourmet dinner on the night was made using recipes from Stephen's book.

Bringing with him a wealth of culinary experience, Stephen prepared a fabulous four course meal, and along the way gave tips, shared ideas and inspired College catering students.  As a past student of SERC Stephen recognises the importance of the training provided by the College and as a successful restaurateur appreciates the need for well trained cookery professionals for future growth of the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland.

Caroline Keatley, Assistant Head of School for Hospitality at SERC commented; “This was a very successful evening, with the restaurant filled to capacity. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we would like to thank Stephen for spending time with the students and passing on his skills and knowledge."
