Vote for SERCs X the TXT Factor video

Back in September 2011 Allstate Northern Ireland ran a competition for students to come up with an idea for a 30 second video clip for YouTube to promote their safe driving message of X the TXT – Don’t Text & Drive.

South Eastern Regional College is one of three finalists who got the opportunity to bring their idea to life and we’re asking for your support to vote for their video by visiting Cool FM’s website.  You could help them win £1000 for the school and tickets to a concert at the Odyssey for the students involved.

Five students from the Skills for Your Life programme in Bangor were involved in creating the video in conjunction with Cool FM and their mentors Pete Snodden and Kirsty McMurray.  The students worked tirelessly to produce the professional video.

Ken Webb, Principal and Chief Executive for SERC commented; “I would encourage all staff and students to support our Skills for Your Life students and vote for their video in this competition.

“X the TXT is a fantastic campaign and if this video can help reduce the amount of texting

related incidents on our roads then it will be a great success. I congratulate the students on their achievements to date and wish them the best of luck with the competition.”

Texting and driving is becoming more and more of an issue on our roads and even though it is illegal in Northern Ireland to use your mobile phone whilst driving, you still see people doing this on a daily basis.

Allstate Northern Ireland launched the X the TXT campaign in 2010 as part of their community programme and so far over 60 schools and colleges have taken part in the X the TXT Challenge, receiving a serious road safety message in a fun and interactive way.  The campaign is endorsed by PSNI and DOE and this competition was organized to spread this important road safety message further by engaging young people through social media channels such as Facebook and YouTube.
