 Schools and Careers Advisers

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently hosted an event for Careers Advisers, Careers Teachers and School Principals to explain a new Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) which will be effective from September 2010.

As a result of the new Framework there will be a re-titling of BTEC courses which will make them more inclusive and responsive to current and future employment.

Muriel Tafts, Head of Communications for SERC commented; “As school leavers begin to make choices on their future studies and careers it is imperative that they are able to make informed decisions. With the changes to the BTEC qualifications we felt it was important to hold an information event for key stakeholders who will influence the choice of local students. This event provided us with an excellent opportunity to explain the changes to qualifications in detail before this publication is released to the public.”

The event was also an opportunity to highlight new full-time courses at SERC for 2010 and introduce the new student support service SERC EXTRA to key school stakeholders.

Kieron O’Loane, Head of SERC EXTRA addressed the audience explaining; “SERC EXTRA acts as a point of contact for students who wish to discuss any issues they may have, whether it be in College or personal life.  We will endeavour to point students in the right direction.

We recognise that every person who signs up to a course at SERC has ambitions in life and we are here to help achieve these ambitions.”

Copies of the College’s Full-time Prospectus for 2010/2011 will be available from 23 February.  An online version is available to view now by visiting the SERC website www.serc.ac.uk
