Entrepreneur Andrew Job has set the standard in class by setting up his own business.
Andrew, who is in his final year of the full-time BTEC National Diploma in Media at the Colleges Downpatrick Campus, has started his own part-time business ‘Down Discos’.
He added: “I have always been interested in music and when I left school I was sure of the course I wanted to do, the BTEC National Diploma in Media. The course is really practical and has taught me a lot about the world of media and I even have my own presenter slot as DJ Andrew on Down FM which is part of my course. The course covers various types of media, such as video production, animation and photography and we have learnt to use software such as Final Cut, Maya and Shake.
“My business is essentially a mobile disco which covers County Down and the Belfast area; I provide a wide range of music from pop to dance and from 60s to today – basically something for everyone. Apart from the financial benefits of running my own business, I have found that I have learnt a lot with regard to the actual operations of the business including the sales, marketing and accounting – I have even set up my own website www.downdiscos.com and of course it has helped me to give practical examples in the assignments that submit in class.
