Gary Ritchie, former student of the bangor campus, who was voted “Edexcel HND Student of the Year” in 2001, has recently gained employment back at the college as a full-time lecturer. Gary completed a Higher National Diploma in Built Environment with IT in June 2001 at the Bangor campus and was the only student in the UK to receive this award. Due to his excellent grades Gary was allowed direct entry into second year of the Environmental Engineering course at the University of Ulster. During his three years at University Gary worked for McAdams Design in Newtownards building up his experience. He also taught CAD (Computer Aided Design) to students at the Bangor campus during this time.
Gary graduated in 2004 with an Upper Second Class Honours BEng (Hons) Degree in Environmental Engineering, he stated “the practical training and the professional skills I received whilst at the Bangor campus helped at university, doing the HND was definitely the best route for me rather than going straight to university.” Gary has recently taken a position as a Lecturer in CAD/Industrial Consultant at SERC where he will be responsible for CAD training all over Northern Ireland, working with Civil Engineers and Architects.
