Kat Kirk, a Performing Arts student at the Bangor campus of the College, has nothing but praise for her course which, she says, has greatly contributed to her first big break in the film-acting industry.

She appeared alongside Rupert Grint, who plays the character of Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter films, in a Belfast-made film called Cherrybomb which was shown at the Belfast Film Festival. 

Cherrybomb is a fairly raw and hard-hitting look at a group of teenagers as they embark on a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shop-lifting and stealing cars.  What starts out as a game turns into something deadly serious when they discover they can’t get off the wild ride they’ve set in motion.

Kat – who played the part of 15-year-old Sharon in the film – who studied a National Diploma in Performing Arts at the College praises the college, the course and the range of subjects within it.

“The course is not just about performance but about all aspects of the performing arts from dance, film creation, voice work to script writing, directing, set design as well as learning about the business end of things such as contracts.”
