How to apply? 
 
 

This programme is applicable to all current SERC students in their penultimate year of study in a full time Higher Education course (Degree/HND). However, there are only 100 places per year in the whole of Northern Ireland; therefore if you are considering taking this opportunity you need to apply soon.

Applications for the 09/10 academic year follow this timetable: 

  • September 2008 – the application form becomes available online on the British Council Northern Ireland website: http://www.britishcouncil.org/northernireland-education-intstudlinks-bei.htm
     
  • October 2008  British Council staff visit Universities and Further Education Colleges around Northern Ireland and deliver recruitment presentations.
     
  • November 2008  Applicants complete the on-line application form.  The closing date for applications is 4pm on Friday 16th November 2007. Late applications will not be accepted.
     
  • December 2008 - Selection interviews take place in Belfast.  Interviews are carried out by staff of the British Council and the Northern Ireland Universities and Colleges of Further and Higher Education.
     
  • January 2009  Offers are made to successful applicants.
     
  • March 2009  Successful applicants attend a matching meeting with an American Church Representative and member of British Council staff.
     
  • June 2009  Successful participants attend a two day induction Briefing, attended by past participants of the BEI programme.
     
  • July 2009  Successful participants attend a Pre-Departure Briefing.
     
  • August 2009  Successful participants leave NI and begin their academic year in the US.
     
  • September 2010  Returning participants enrol for final year studies at NI University/College.
