Are you a student in your penultimate year of a full-time Higher Education course (2nd year of a degree or 1st year of an HND) at South Eastern Regional College? If so, you are eligible to study for a year in the United States through the Business Education Initiative. BEI, which is sponsored by the Department for Employment & Learning and the British Council, provides funding for this.
The BEI scheme is a wonderful opportunity for students to broaden their experience and outlook, and it also provides a great opportunity for them to travel in the US and to meet new people. As the BEI programme is renowned, your participation in it would look excellent on a CV or job application.
Places on the scheme are in high demand and applicants have to go through a rigorous selection procedure; training is provided for those students who apply to help them prepare for this. While it should be seen as a wonderful opportunity, it does require a considerable amount of work on the student’s part and students should be encouraged to think carefully before applying.
Aims of the programme:
- To develop future managers for Northern Ireland
- To develop the business and management skills of pre-final year degree and HND students from any discipline
- To improve the core skills of participants
- To provide students with an outward looking, international experience
- To raise the economic and cultural awareness of Northern Ireland in the US.
- Bring knowledge and international experience back to the Northern Ireland economy and in doing so encourage a culture where the old historic divisions are set aside.
