Skills for Work student, John Gillan is currently studying Carpentry & Joinery with the College at Level 1. As part of the “Skills for Work” programme, John was given the opportunity to sample a range of occupations including Catering and Metal Sheet Work, and decided to pursue a career in Carpentry & Joinery, having enjoyed it during his time at Donaghadee High, where he studied technology.
Despite having two years or more to complete his Vocational and Essential Skills qualifications, John has sailed through the course and is on target to complete both within a year, allowing him to progress to Level 2.
When speaking of the course and his plans fro the future, he said “I really enjoy the course, the tutors are really helpful. I hope to go on to do an apprenticeship and get a placement in this area.”
