We’ve all heard the saying ‘like father, like son’, but for Bangor graduate Gavin Sloan it is a case of ‘like mother, like son’. In 2008 his mother Tracey, who graduated with a higher national diploma in computing and her classmate won the Finlay Communications Cup. Two years on and the trophy once again takes pride of place in the Sloan household, this time for Gavin, he has followed in his mother’s footsteps when he, along with two fellow students, was awarded the Finlay Communications Cup for Excellence in September 2010.
While studying for his qualification Gavin, along with fellow students developed a software application that would organise the staff rota for a local care home. Upon completion of the project the software was integrated into the company and got extremely positive feedback from employees.
