Wood Machining apprentice Ryan McCart who hails from County Down came runner-up in the national Carpenter’s Craft Competition 2010.
Employed by Currie Classic Joinery, Ryan entered the regional heat of the Institute of Carpenters annual Craft Competition. Competing against some of the top young apprentices in Northern Ireland he was given a brief to design a fit-for-purpose radiator cover. Upon completion of the cover he submitted it to a judging panel and was awarded first place in Northern Ireland and received a cheque for £100.
By achieving first place Ryan’s submission went forward to the National Finals where he was awarded second place, £200 prize money and over £100’s worth of tools.
