Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Music

This 1 year course is equivalent to 3xAS levels and leads onto the 1 year Extended Diploma (top-up)-students who successfully complete the 90 credit course will automatically be rolled over onto the Extended Diploma & do not need to apply online.

This 1 year course is equivalent to 3xAS levels and leads onto the 1 year Extended Diploma (top-up)-students who successfully complete the 90 credit course will automatically be rolled over onto the Extended Diploma & do not need to apply online.

This is a highly practical course which explores all areas of popular music and music technology. You will be required to participate in live performance and recording as part of this course. 

Successful completion of this course will lead directly onto further study on the 1 year Extended Diploma (top up) course.   

Subjects studied may include: (Bangor & Lisburn) 

  • Music performance techniques

  • The Sound and Music Industry

  • History of popular music

  • Arranging/Composing

  • Music theory and harmony

  • Keyboards skills

  • Contemporary Songwriting Techniques

  • Music notation software

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability. 

 
 

 
Entry Requirements
Entry requirements include the following:
 

BTEC Level 2 First in Music or 4 GCSE’s  - Maths and English at Grade C or above or equivalent e.g. Essentials Skills.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing.
Successful completion of interview and/or audition/workshop.
 

Those with relevant experience in music and music technology will also be considered.

The interview process will involve an interview, an audition and an online test. The outcomes of which, along with the required grades, will determine your successful entry to this programme.

Please note that if the course is oversubscribed additional criteria will be applied. 

 
Where will it take me?
The course can also lead directly into a career in media, TV, film, recording, song writing and advertising. Alternatively further study at a higher level will lead to jobs such as a performing artist, TV and film work, composer or management positions in the performing arts and music industries.
