Level 3 90-credit Diploma in Production Arts

This 1 year course is equivalent to 3x AS levels and leads onto the 1 year Extended Diploma (top-up)-students who successfully complete the 90 credit course will automatically be rolled over onto the Extended Diploma & do not need to apply online.

Course Overview

This 1 year course is the equivalent to 3 AS levels (students who successfully complete the 90 credit will automatically be rolled over onto the extended Diploma top up Course, so they do not need to apply online).

Modules studied may include:   

  • Production Arts Workshop

  • Production Arts Planning

  • Performing Arts Business

  • Stage Lighting Operations

  • Stage Sound Operations

  • Scenic Construction for the Stage

  • Props Making

  • Designing Costume for Performance

  • Stage Management

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve employability.   

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements include the following:
BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject or 4 GCSE’s  - Maths and English at Grade C or above or equivalent e.g. Essentials Skills.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or ICT.
Successful completion of interview and /or audition.
We are also looking for a degree of potential that can be developed, as well as a real interest in and commitment to the art of performance.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of this course will lead directly onto further study on the 1 year Extended Diploma, which upon completion will be the equivalent to 3 A Levels.

There are very good progression opportunities to University and specialist colleges on completion of the Extended Diploma (top-up).
Alternatively further study on our Higher National Diploma (HND) in Performing Arts can lead to a career in acting, producing, teaching or arts management.
How will it make me more employable?

• Gaining a Personal Development qualification demonstrating your employability skills (communication, teamwork, critical thinking)
• Gaining hands on experience through Industry Projects

This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing the skills and knowledge which employers need you to have.

As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will take part in employability skills workshops and gain skills in teamwork, commitment, IT and problem solving. You will also have the opportunity to become a member of The Glass Umbrella Theatre Company.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
You will be assessed throughout the year on: performances, individual and group work, research and evaluations.
Each unit will have a number of assignments that will be graded at distinction, merit and pass level.
