Course Overview

On this course students will first explore the basics of the Maya interface, including selecting and manipulating objects, organising scenes, and customising the interface. Next, learn about polygonal modelling, creating and refining meshes, sculpting, and working with NURBS surfaces. Once you understand modelling, you can learn how to create and apply materials—adding colour, texture, and reflectivity to your creations.

This course is ideal for any student with a creative flair who wants to take the next step and learn about compute rendering, animated modelling and lighting.

Topics include:

  • Getting familiar with the Maya interface
  • Configuring viewports and workspaces
  • Selecting and manipulating objects
  • Creating hierarchies and layers in scenes
  • Creating polygonal models
  • Modeling and refining polygonal meshes

The focus will be providing you with an understanding of the key functionality in Maya to allow you to build and animate models.

You will love the hands-on approach this course provides, working directly in MAYA making your own models come alive while building up art assets and projects for your portfolio.

This course will give you the fundamental knowledge to progress onto more advanced Design and Animation projects and development areas such as advanced movement, lighting and rendering.

For this course students are recommended to have a good understanding of how to use a computer and preferably some background in a computing related area.
