Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing


This full-time one year course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interested in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry. You will develop your hairdressing skills through the college salon.

Course Overview

This full time one year course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interesting in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry.  You will develop your hairdressing skills through the college salon.

Modules studied may include:

  • Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image in a salon
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Follow health and safety in the salon
  • Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
  • Create a hair and beauty image
  • Colour hair using temporary colour
  • Salon reception duties
  • Create and maintain retail displays in the salon
  • Shampoo and conditioning
  • Styling women's hair
  • Styling men's hair
  • Plaiting and twisting hair

You will get experience of working in a real salon environment at the College, which is open to the public.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or ICT.

The course will be timetabled over 21 hours per week ie - 15 hours of vocational classes, 3 hours per week employability training and 3 hours per week Essential skills English and Maths.
