Course Overview

The Level 2 Double Award  in Applied Science provides students with a solid foundation in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  It prepares students for progression onto Level 3 programmes and employment.  It is equivalent to two GCSEs.

The vocational course is delivered over 18 hours per week. 

Modules include:

  • Principles of Science (Exam)
  • Chemistry and our Earth
  • Energy and our Universe
  • Biology and our Environment
  • Applications of Chemical Substances
  • Applications of Physical Science
  • Health Applications of Life Science
  • Scientific Skills (Exam)

You will also be required to:

Complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths. This will be a mandatory part of your course.

Work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve employability.

You wish to pursue a career in the applied science field or obtain a good foundation knowledge of applied science subjects.

You'll Learn:
About the Principles behind and Applications of:  Chemistry, Biology, Physics.

You'll Love:
The hands-on experiments and the range of science projects that you will participate in.

You'll Progress:
To the Advanced Tech - Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Applied Science  (dependant on achievement) and possible careers within the Forensic, Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy or Science industries.

You'll Need:
A minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grades D or above.
