Course Overview

This course provides a great starting point for anyone wishing to develop their artistic skills and who are keen to progress to higher level Art and Design courses.  This one year course which is the equivalent to 4 GCSEs is made up of 6 units which will develop your artistic skills using a range of techniques and equipment.  You will get the opportunity to work in a range of disciplines including photography, ceramics, fine art and 3D design. 

The programme typically runs for a minimum of 15 hours a week.

Modules may include:

OCR Units

  • Exploring the Work of Artists and Designers
  • Producing Art or Design Work for Sale
  • Producing Art or Design Work for Location
  • Exploring Photography
  • Exploring Graphic Design and Illustration
  • Exploring 3D
  • Exploring Fine Art

You will also work towards Personal Development qualifications and will be involved in a range of enterprise activities, designed to improve your employability.

You are interested in taking your first step to a career within our creative industry such as advertising, design, fine art or crafts.

You'll Learn:
About the work of artists and designers, how to produce art for sale, photography, graphic design, ceramics, fashion and fine art.

The hands-on approach to this course and developing your artistic skills using a range of techniques and equipment within the modern Art & Design studios.

You'll Progress:
Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to further study on the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Subsidiary Diploma in Art and Design.  Study at a higher level may lead to jobs such as a photographer, fashion designer or illustrator.

You'll Need:

You’ll need: 2 GCSE passes at Grade D-G or above.

At interview, you must bring a portfolio of work displaying an interest and ability in Art & design.  Details of this will be confirmed in the email invitation at a later date.
