Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Photography)
Course Overview
This 1 year course provides a progression route to Degree and HNC/HND courses in all areas of art and design. The course will give you the opportunity to develop your ideas and opinions whilst exploring a range of creative photographic techniques and technology in historical and contemporary contexts.
Units covered are:
Unit 1 researching, recording and responding in art and design
Unit 2 media experimentation in art and design
Unit 3 preparation and progression in art and design
Unit 4 information and interpretation in art and design
Unit 5 Personal experimental studies in art and design
Unit 6 Extended media development
Unit 10 Final Major Project
Practical subjects that will be covered during the course are:
Film and Digital camera work (SLR, DSLR, Medium Format film)
Black and White Darkroom Practice
Photography Studio Lighting techniques
Techniques in Portraiture
Still life
Location and Documentary Photography
Historical and Contextual research
Exhibiting and portfolio building
You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability.

BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or Photography or related subject such as media. Or an A Level pass in Art or Photography with 4 GCSE passes to include English.
You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C.
At interview, you must bring a portfolio of work displaying an interest and ability in photography and/or Art & design. Details of this will be confirmed in the email invitation at a later date.
