Course Overview

This two-year full time course is equivalent to 2 full A levels (120 Credits) and within the first year, you will complete the Level 3 Introductory Diploma (2 AS levels).

Students who successfully complete this course can apply directly to University entry or apply for our one year Foundation Diploma in Art & Design.

The programme typically runs for a minimum of 15 hours a week.

Pathways may include: ceramics, fine art, photography, fashion or graphic design.

  • Unit 40 Carving, constructing and modelling 3D artwork
  • Unit 50 Fashion Design
  • Unit 63 Contemporary Fine Art 
  • Unit 65 Fine Art Printmaking  

Skills areas studied may include: 

  • Drawing 
  • Painting 
  • Fine Art 
  • 3D design (such as sculpture and ceramics) 
  • Photography 
  • Computers in art and design 
  • Contextual Studies   

You will also exhibit your work as part of the course alongside other courses within the creative department. You will work towards a Personal Development qualification and you will be involved in a range of activities designed to improve your employability.

You would like to progress into a career in the expanding creative disciplines including advertising, design, fashion, crafts or fine art

You'll Learn:
How to present, exhibit and sell your art, digital image creation, photography, 3D art and design, fashion design and how artists use 2D materials, techniques, and processes.

You'll Love:
The hands-on approach to this course and developing your artistic skills using a range of techniques and equipment within our modern and well equipped Art & Design studios. Exhibiting and selling your work through the various student companies. The visits to galleries and exhibitions in Dublin and Belfast. Working on internal and external client commissions.

You'll Progress:
Many of our students progress to further study at a higher level. Some may apply for entry to the University of their choice but many choose to stay with us for the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design. Further study could lead to many career options such as illustration, animation, fashion buying, interior design, print making or graphic design.

You'll Need:

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to included Art, English and / or Mathematics or their Level 2 equivalents. Or a Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design with a Merit grade or higher.

You must also have a portfolio of work displaying an interest and ability in Art and Design.Details of this will be confirmed in your email invitation at a later date.

You will also be asked to complete a short Summer Evaluation Project.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or above.
