SERC art student Marketa Babáčková recently hosted her first art exhibition in Belfast.

Arts for All is an organisation that supports community development and relations, education, personal development and social cohesion through participation in the arts. Marketa, who is studying the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and Media Practice course at SERC, recently showed her works at her first exhibition at Arts for All’s John Luke Gallery in Belfast. Her exhibition was entitled ‘Leading the Way’, which showcased Marketa's signature works in pyrography (burning designs onto material) and mixed media art.

Marketa says, “Putting together an exhibition of this scale in such a beautiful space was both exciting and intimidating. Throughout the process I was often accompanied by fears of inadequacy, but the overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors has been incredibly rewarding. Over a third of my exhibition pieces have been sold, and I’ve also received new commissions as a result of the show.

“I want to acknowledge the breakthrough input from my art course in building this body of work. Having already developed my own following through my skills in pyrography, it was the experience of learning cyanotype at SERC that allowed me to bring my work to the next level, blending these techniques together for a unique and delicate outcome. It’s a huge relief to have completed this experience, and knowing it was a success has given me renewed confidence and encouragement to continue my artistic journey.”
