Madison Bell, who is 16 and from Comber, balances her studies at SERC with her football career as part of the Northern Ireland Women’s Under-17s football team.
Madison has just completed the Level 2 Traineeship in Hair and Media Make-up at the college’s Bangor Campus. Madison says: “I left school having completed GCSEs and began looking for suitable courses. I had attended SERC one day a week during my time at school as part of my occupational studies class, so I was already familiar with the college and knew that I liked it.”
Madison chose the Level 2 Traineeship in Hair and Media Make-up as she had an interest in hair and beauty and knew the course included make-up application, lash and brow treatments as well as learning how to cut and colour hair.
Throughout the course, Madison has had the opportunity to work in the college’s commercial salon, Shadeka which is open to members of the public as well as staff and students at SERC. It offers a realistic working environment where students can practice cutting and blow-drying hair and even applying highlights.
Madison says “If you’re thinking about studying at SERC, you won’t regret your decision. The teachers are approachable and welcoming, you will make friends, and you’ll learn something new every day – I would definitely recommend it!”
In addition to her studies at SERC, Madison is a dedicated football player for both Lisburn Rangers Ladies Football Club and the Northern Ireland Women’s Under-17s football team, where she plays the position of goalkeeper.
Madison says: “It can be hard to balance my studies at SERC with my commitment to football, but I’m so lucky to have the support of my parents and my brothers and sisters. It’s busy, but I enjoy both my course at SERC and training and playing football – time flies when you’re having fun!”
Madison plans to continue her studies on the Level 3 Hair and Media Make-up course as well as continuing to play football.
