Carpentry and Joinery Trainees Explore Makita Technology

Students from the Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Traineeship at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently visited Makita's Dublin facility to gain first-hand experience of the latest innovations and technologies shaping the construction industry.

The Lisburn Campus group were welcomed by the Makita management team before exploring the company's latest range of cordless chop saws. This was followed by a presentation in Makita's Technical Centre, where they learned about the Tabless lithium-ion battery technology.

A practical workshop formed a key part of the visit, allowing every student to gain hands-on experience using cordless circular saws, nail guns, jigsaws and reciprocating saws. The students also had the opportunity to engage directly with Makita's technical specialists, asking questions and learning more about the equipment used across the industry. John Oliver, Makita Regional Product Specialist, praised the students for their enthusiasm, participation and insightful questions throughout the day.

Seamus Branniff, Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer at SERC said, "Visits such as this are invaluable in helping our students connect their classroom learning with current industry practice. The opportunity to engage directly with cutting-edge technology, speak with product specialists and gain hands-on experience with professional equipment enhances their understanding of the trade and helps prepare them for successful careers in the construction sector. We are grateful to everyone at Makita for their hospitality and for providing such an informative and engaging learning experience."

The visit concluded with a tour of Makita's repair centre, where students observed the detailed process involved in servicing and repairing professional tools. Makita generously presented each student with a gift bag containing a polo shirt, baseball cap and impact drill bit set as a memento of the day.

The students and staff would, again, like to thank the Makita team for delivering a memorable and educational experience that reinforced the importance of innovation, technical knowledge and professional development within the construction industry.
