Ards and North Down Borough Council’s Taste Autumn Finale Weekend finished with a bit of heat when SERC chefs took to the Cookery Theatre stage at the Walled Garden in Bangor Castle during the Chilli Festival.
Paul Mercer, Principal Lecturer and Commercial Hospitality Manager and Brian Magill, Lecturer in Catering, showcased a wide range of products from local artisan food producers and demonstrated a variety of dishes which also incorporated chillies.
Did you know? The Scoville Scale, used to measure the heat of chilli peppers is named after American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville, who developed the test in 1912. The scale ranges from 0 SHU ie no heat or mild, for example, a bell pepper to 1,000,000+ SHU, the rating for chillies such as the aptly named Carolina Reaper or Pepper X.
