The Turing Scheme provides funding for students to undertake a study or work placement in any country in the world. On the Scheme, students will also gain a better understanding of global citizenship, work practices, eco-tourism, conservation and sustainability on a global stage.
This year, 91 students across Animal Care, Business Studies, Computing, Construction, Culinary, Early Years, Health & Social Care, Media, Skills for Life & Work, Sport, and Travel & Tourism courses will travel to East Asia and Africa to gain real-world experience and skills as well as to face challenges that will push them out of their comfort zone. Activities for students will be relevant to their particular course area and include shadowing professionals in their course-relevant industries, improving their ability to work as a team, building confidence, gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures, learning about sustainable practices in their industry areas as well as development pathways for future careers and much more.
SERC Senior International Development Manager Elaine McKeown comments, “We are delighted that students and staff from across the college will undertake either a study or work placement in Spring 2027. It’s often a life-changing experience for students, giving them a unique opportunity to gain vital international experience, improve their technical skills and boost their employability.”
The Turing Scheme contributes to the UK Government’s commitment to a Global Britain by helping organisations to enhance existing international links and forge new relationships. The delivery partner for the Turing Scheme is the Department for Education.
