Course Overview

This classroom-based course provides a hands-on introduction to 3D CAD modelling using a modern, cloud-based design platform. It is designed for individuals new to CAD, as well as those currently working in engineering, manufacturing, construction, or product development who want to develop core digital design skills.

The course focuses on building practical skills in designing accurate 3D models, producing technical drawings, and creating simple assemblies. Learners will gain an understanding of key concepts such as parametric modelling, design intent, and feature-based modelling.

Through applied learning, you will develop the confidence to use CAD tools in professional environments and prepare for Autodesk certification. This course also supports progression into more advanced CAD, CAD/CAM, and product development training.

 

This course is designed for individuals interested in developing skills in 3D design, engineering, manufacturing, or product development.

Specific Entry Requirements:

  • Learners should be at least 16 years of age
  • No formal qualifications are required
  • Basic computer skills are essential

 

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Work towards achieving Autodesk certification (subject to successful completion)
  • Navigate a professional CAD environment using Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Create and constrain accurate 2D sketches
  • Construct and edit 3D parametric models using tools such as extrude, revolve, sweep, and loft
  • Understand design intent, dimensional control, and feature-based modelling
  • Create simple assemblies and exploded views
  • Produce annotated technical drawings suitable for manufacture
  • Export digital models for 3D printing and prototyping workflows

 

You’ll progress by becoming confident in applying your skills within engineering, manufacturing, and design environments. You may also progress to more advanced training in 3D CAD, CAD/CAM, and product development.
