Why Study This Course

This course is ideal if you already have experience in working with clay but want the opportunity to further develop and hone your making skills whether in hand building, or through throwing in a more personal manner .

Course Overview

This new advanced leisure class is for students who have existing ceramic knowledge and skills but wish to extend these further in a meaningful personal way through studio practice.

Students will continue to explore using a range of tools and equipment specific to ceramic techniques and processes appropriate for their own personal progression.

This course will continue to help learners to understand a variety of surface qualities that can be achieved through the use of slips, underglazes and glazes.

You will need to:

  • have a sound working knowledge of ceramic practices either through courses already studied or self taught
  • a desire to create and develop a visual language using ceramic materials
  • a willingness to extend your ceramic knowledge and an eagerness to try out new techniques and processes in the creation of original ceramic work

As this is a leisure programme there are no modules attached.

You will have the opportunity for progression onto an accredited ceramic or other art and design programme within SERC.
