Delivered over 2 to 3 days (depending on prior heating design experience), this part-time course covers the key elements of designing heat pump heating systems in residential properties.
The curriculum includes legislation, energy efficiency, circuit design, and low temperature heating and hot water system requirements. Learning is classroom-based and combines theoretical study with practical design calculations and workbook assessments.
Assessment is through multiple-choice papers and practically assessed worksheets.
This qualification is aligned with OFTEC: OFT21-504D (Design of Heat Pump Systems).
This course is for heating and plumbing professionals seeking to gain expertise in heat pump system design.
- Applicants must hold a nationally recognised qualification and/or registration in a trade associated with heating and/or plumbing. Candidates must provide evidence of relevant qualifications and/or registration to support entry.
Or
- Must provide written evidence confirming that they have ‘on the job’ heating installation and/or maintenance experience and/or heat pump system design work for a period of not less than two years, and evidence of ongoing continual professional development. The evidence shall be in writing from the employer detailing precisely the type, range and volume of work carried out. This qualification would enable the holder to apply for OFTEC registration and for MCS certification for work under the scope of MIS 3005-D (The Heat Pump Standard- Design).
