SERC Students Union (SU) Officers, Class Reps and Chairs have collectively racked up an amazing 850 hours of volunteering this academic year.

SERC SU volunteers got involved in a wide range of events across the college this year. Not only do these volunteers give up their time to run extra-curricular clubs and societies and help represent student needs within the college, but they have also been involved in fundraisers for Red Nose Day, MACs, Women’s Aid, and organised special events to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month and International Women’s Day on campus. Several SU volunteers have gone the extra mile to represent the student body and college at external events throughout the year, including representing SERC at the NUS-USI Conference and signing UUSU’s charter tackling violence against women and girls.

The collective work of these SU volunteers shone through in the awards they recently won. At the SERC SU conference, several volunteers were given awards for their dedication to volunteering and enhancing the student experience at the college:

  • Volunteer of the Year - Moxxie McCormick
  • Clubs & Societies Chair of the Year - Heidi Wilson (Film Club)
  • Best New Officer/Rep - Sarah Greer
  • Liberation Officer of the Year - Abbie Cook
  • Excellence in Supporting the HE Experience - Jordon Snell
  • Excellence in Supporting the Student Experience - Mark Brashier

SERC Student Engagement Manager, Ross Currie comments, "I am incredibly proud of our Student Union volunteers for their dedication and hard work, contributing an impressive 850 hours of service this year. Their commitment and passion are truly inspiring and make a significant impact on making SERC into a thriving student community.'

Volunteers' Week takes place from 2 to 8 June this year and is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the efforts of all volunteers across the UK. Take the time to check out SERC SU to help celebrate these SU volunteers throughout the week:
