SERC Students’ Union (SU) members recently attended the pride parade in Belfast this year, a first for the SU, to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ students at the college.

SERC SU brought 15 students along to the Belfast Pride parade including Student Governor Mark Brashier, Bangor Campus President Vince Gilliland and Equality and Diversity Officer Vikki Pinkerton. The group also received support from two SERC HND Art Students who designed stickers that were handed out during the parade, as well as support from a student who photographed the SERC students at the parade. SERC SU students marched alongside other SUs within the National Union for Students in Northern Ireland, including Ulster University SU and Queen's University Belfast SU.

SERC Student Engagement Manager Ross Currie comments, “This year the students made a strong commitment to be part of Belfast Pride 2025, and it’s fantastic to see the whole team accomplish this goal. This was a proud moment for the SU, whose pride alliance has been growing in the last number of years, and I am also proud of the fact that we had support from so many talented students to help us make the day truly special for all involved. I look forward to continuing to grow the SU's presence at a national level and attending other events like this in the future.”

SERC Student Governor Mark Brashier comments, “Last Saturday marked a historic milestone for SERC SU, as members of our LGBTQ+ community and allies proudly took part in the Union's first-ever Belfast Pride parade. This landmark moment signals SERC SU's continued commitment to standing with the LGBTQ+ community and championing equality, dignity, and inclusion across all campuses. The SU joined thousands of others in the heart of Belfast to celebrate progress and demand further positive, progressive change, aligned with members from other SUs.”
