What we doOur company is providing a friendly and approachable team of health and social care students to offer elderly people a chance to express themselves and simply enjoy real company. We will run a weekly social and activities day centre in the McNeill room within the Downpatrick campus during the hours of 9:30am and 12:30pm on a Monday for ten older adults. We plan to have four groups of ten adults enrolled, and each group will attend on the same day of a given week each month. The rationale behind this is that service users can get to know each other and develop relationships with other individuals in the community, as well as with our students. We will offer a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, dance lessons and flower arranging, that will give everyone an equal opportunity to be creative and enjoy themselves around their peers. Our SERC company is a chance for older adults who are isolated to reminisce, relate and relax with genuine people who recognise and understand themselves what it is like to be alone.
