Former student reaches quarter finals of University Challenge
Former student Kate Ritchie has made it through to the quarter finals of University Challenge. Kate studied the painting for pleasure course at SERC, then progressed to the foundation diploma in art and design.
Hailing from Waringstown, the 63-year-old studied art and design at the College in 2015 before progressing to Ulster University where she is studying fine art
The brainy quartet are the first ever team from Ulster University to compete in the popular BB2 quiz show hosted by Jeremy Paxman. The team, who are a lot older than most contestants, with an average age of 50, made it through from an initial 128 teams in the running for the show
Kate who described herself as a passionate ‘life-long learner’ said she was ‘shocked’ and ‘delighted’ to make it this far. Kates specialism is literature and science.
SERC would like to wish the team good luck in their bid to be crowned overall champions and well deserved bragging rights.
The quarter-finals will be broadcast on 12 February on BB2.
