A new Female Leadership programme developed by SERC and Ards and North Down Borough Council offers the opportunity for women business owners or employees in the local area to boost business skills and gain a management qualification.  The course will be delivered by SERC's Business Services team. Following a high level of interest in the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 7 certificate in strategic management, SERC is now offering training to achieve a Level 3 or Level 5 CMI qualification starting in January 2024.

The course is FREE to attend and runs part-time from Wednesday 17 January (Level 3) or Thursday 18 January (Level 5).

The course includes:

  • Five hours one-to-one mentoring - face to face or online - to address business and individual needs and challenges

  • Networking events

  • Support to achieve a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification at Level 3 or Level 5 (both 7-week courses) - all delivered online

Who is it for?

  • Participants must be resident or working in the Ards and North Down Borough Council area

  • The programme is open to female business owners of small or micro enterprises, employees, or individuals

  • Participation on the Level 5 CMI qualifications is subject to eligibility criteria

“Often, as a small business owner, it can be lonely and you are filling more than one job role. Having the opportunity to engage with others who were in a similar position and learning together was a delight. The course and the mentorship that came with it helped my confidence. It reminded me of what skills I had and encouraged me to continue on my small business journey.”

“I wasn't sure about returning to study, but the teacher was incredible and got me through. It's helped me think differently: I take my business seriously and consider the bigger picture. I can see the structure of what I am doing and I have a better understanding of the language of business - and the confidence to use it! Getting the qualification was amazing - I had a huge sense of achievement.”
