The community came together to support Be Your Own Boss students at a special breakfast event at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Downpatrick Campus.

Be Your Own Boss, funded by the Department for Communities' Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, empowers adults in the Downpatrick area to return to education, achieve a Level 2 qualification in Enterprise, and receive valuable mentoring in business development over a 16-week course. This initiative fosters entrepreneurship and personal growth within the community.

Seven students attended the breakfast, where they were welcomed by SERC Enterprise and Business Support staff, who hosted the event.  The students were introduced to representatives from the Men’s Shed, County Down Rural Community Network, Clanrye Group and local businesses, giving insights to the collaborative spirit of the local organisations and showcasing the strong network of support available to aspiring entrepreneurs.

The event provided a valuable platform for students to share their business ideas, receive constructive feedback, and access practical advice from both community members and business professionals. This supportive environment encouraged participants to refine their plans and developed their confidence in taking their next steps towards starting their own enterprises.

The breakfast was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and motivated to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions. The event also strengthened community ties and reinforced the importance of local support in helping individuals achieve their goals.
