While some of us dream of completing one marathon in our life time, Mary Gillies, Lecturer in Travel & Tourism, recently completed the Boston Marathon...having completed the Tokyo Marathon just six weeks previously! These two marathons put Mary into an elite group of people, who have completed Abbott World Marathon Majors and therefore a winner of a coveted Abbott World Marathon Major Six Star Medal - a rare accolade held by very few female runners in Northern Ireland.
Mary has also completed marathons in London, New York, Chicago, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dublin. Huge congratulations! Mary is fundraising for NI Hospice. You can show your support on Mary’s Just Giving page.
Congratulations also to Julie George, Careers team, who successfully completed the Manchester Marathon—an impressive feat made more inspiring given she was recovering from an injury in the run up to race day.
And finally, no stranger to marathons, Joe Mahon, Associate Lecturer in Skills for Life, successfully completed the Paris Marathon earlier this month. Congratulations Joe! You and link to Joe's Just Giving page to show your support with a donation to Chest, Heart and Stoke.
Well done to everyone - truly inspirational.
