Success in her studies has brought progression at work for SERC apprentice Sarah Arogba.

Sarah (28), from Castlewellan, who previously worked as a manager in a photographic studio and as a healthcare worker in her father’s clinic in Nigeria, recently completed her Level 2 Work-based Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care and has been  promoted to Senior Support Worker at Croob Cottages Care Home. She said, “When I started at Croob Cottages Care Home, I quickly realised that I really enjoyed working in the health care sector and that it was something that I would like to do long term.   My colleagues had enrolled on the Level 2 Work-based Apprenticeship with SERC and I thought it would be good to do the course too, and I had support from my employer.”

Sarah added, “Most of the classes were in the workplace, in person or through Microsoft Teams. Olive, my worked-based assessor from SERC, was very supportive and encouraging, which helped me progress.”

Sarah, who has already enrolled on the Level 3 in Health and Social Care, said, “The assignments are all relevant to the workplace so I am keen to keep developing and gain further qualifications which will help me progress in work.”

She added, “I would encourage anyone interested in working in the healthcare sector to find out about work-based apprenticeships as you can pace the work, there is some flexibility in achieving the award and there is a lot of support from your work-based assessor at SERC.”
