Level 1 and Level 2 Traineeship Bricklaying students from Newtownards and Downpatrick Campus took time out of the college recently, for a site visit to Bawn Hall, a new housing development in Newtownards.

Under construction by P&K McKaigue Ltd Building Contractors in partnership with Errigal Homes and Radius Housing, this major project involves the construction of 95 social housing units.  The development includes a mix of detached and semi-detached houses and apartments, along with associated site works, drainage, and landscaping. The overall project duration is scheduled for 156 weeks.

Terry Holland, Curriculum Manager at SERC said, “The students were warmly welcomed by Site Managers, Robert Straghan and Gerard O’Neill, from P&K McKaigue Ltd Building Contractors.  Following an induction, we were given a guided tour of the site. The on-site bricklaying squad which included an apprentice, generously gave their time to speak with the trainees, offering valuable insights and advice about the work on a build of this scale.”

Terry concluded, “It was a valuable visit and the students all gained greatly from the experience.  A sincere thank you to the team from P&K McKaigue Ltd Building Contractors for hosting the students with their time, support and commitment to developing future talent in the construction industry.”
