Students from SERC are diving into pantomime season with a spectacular production of The Little Mermaid, at SERC’s SPACE Theatre, Castle Park Road, Bangor from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 December.
The production features a cast and crew of 22 students from SERC's HND Performing Arts course, showcasing their skills in acting, singing, dancing, stage management and technical production. Supporting the production behind the scenes are students from the Level 2 Theatrical Media Make-up course who are helping to transform the cast into a host of colourful underwater characters.
Written by renowned pantomime author Tom Whalley, The Little Mermaid follows the story of Aria, a young mermaid who dreams of exploring the world above the waves despite the wishes of her father, King Neptune. After rescuing the handsome Prince Bodhi from a storm at sea, Aria falls in love, only to find her happiness threatened by the wicked Octavia, who is plotting to seize the throne of Atlantis. With the help of a crabby crustacean, a silly seagull and a shoal of fishy friends, Aria embarks on an unforgettable adventure packed with laughs, music and magic.
Performing Arts Lecturer, Steven Lee, said, "Featuring the best of local emerging talent in all aspects of music and performance, our production of The Little Mermaid is an extravaganza of slapstick, jokes galore and full-on entertainment for all the family – not to be missed!”
He added, “Our pantomime performances are a highlight of the college calendar and provide students with invaluable real-world experience in every aspect of theatre production, from performance and technical operations to costume, make-up and backstage support.
“Audiences can expect dazzling characters, colourful costumes, laugh-out-loud comedy and plenty of audience participation in what promises to be a truly "fin-tastic" pantomime "tail" for buoys and gulls of all ages.”
Performances will be on Thursday 10, Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December at 7.30pm, with matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2.00pm. Tickets are available now through TicketSource. Tickets are set to sell out fast for this superb production, so don't delay, book your tickets today!
