Course Overview

Delivered over two days at Lisburn and other campuses, the course focuses on the theory and design principles behind planning and implementing low temperature heating systems in dwellings. Learners will explore modern design methods that prioritise efficiency and future-proofing heating installations.

Assessment is completed via:

  • e-Assessment

  • Practical design scenarios

This course is for qualified plumbers and heating installers looking to upskill in efficient heating system design.

Specific Entry Requirements:

  • Must be a qualified plumber or heating installer with experience in wet central heating installations

  • Evidence of competence such as Gas Safe Register, OFTEC, MCS, HETAS registration, or manufacturer certification

This course will cover subject matter relating to:

  • Planning and designing low temperature heating systems

  • Energy efficiency principles for domestic heating

  • System sizing and layout

  • Compliance with MCS and current building regulations

  • Integration with renewable technologies such as heat pumps

This qualification supports entry or continued membership within the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Learners can progress to:

  • Level 5 Green Technologies

  • Level 5 Retrofitting of Domestic Properties
