Designed for practising and aspiring managers, team leaders, project officers and shift managers, you'll develop the confidence and practical skills to lead people, set and monitor objectives, and manage day-to-day operations - effectively enhancing both your CV and future career opportunities.
This part-time course provides the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to become an effective first-line manager or team leader. Ideal for those currently working in, or aspiring to, supervisory roles, it combines practical learning with real-world application.
You'll explore how organisations are structured and operate, and examine how culture, values and ethics influence success. The course also introduces the purpose of strategic business planning and the important role managers play in achieving organisational goals. You'll develop an understanding of key management and leadership theories, styles and approaches, learning how to motivate and support individuals and teams while promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.
Assessment is through practical written assignments based on workplace scenarios, allowing you to apply your learning and build confidence in leading people and improving performance.
This course is designed for individuals currently in or aspiring to team leadership or supervisory roles.
Specific Entry Requirements:
GCSE English or Essential Skills Level 2
OR relevant supervisory experience
Recommended Experience:
Suitable for those with recent workplace experience (paid or voluntary)
Alternatively, those willing to conduct research on organisations to complete assignments
To be eligible for funded access to this course, learners must:
Be aged 18 or over
Be eligible to work in Northern Ireland
Be settled in Northern Ireland and ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years
OR have indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK
Master the fundamentals of:
Unit 330 – Organisational Awareness for First Line Managers
Develop an understanding of organisational structures, culture, values and ethics, and explore how strategic business planning enables managers to contribute to organisational success.
- Understand how and why organisations are structured
- Understand the influence of culture, values, ethics and behaviours on organisations
- Understand the role of First Line Managers in contributing to organisational success
Unit 331 – Approaches to Managing and Leading People and Teams
Gain the practical skills to manage and lead people effectively, inspiring performance while supporting individual needs and fostering an inclusive workplace.
- Understand approaches to management and leadership
- Know how to effectively manage and lead people
- Understand approaches to effectively manage and lead teams
On successful completion of this qualification, learners can progress within the CMI Level 3 First Line Management and Leadership pathway by building from the Award to the Certificate or Diploma.
Those wishing to continue their professional development can also progress to the CMI Level 5 Qualifications in Management and Leadership, providing a pathway towards achieving Chartered Manager status and advancing their leadership career.
