Course Overview

Delivered over a structured three-day programme, this part-time course combines guided classroom learning with practical workshop sessions. It is aimed at qualified plumbing and heating professionals who are, or plan to be, involved in the installation of non-refrigerant Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) systems.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with the Heat Pump Association, MCS, and industry partners to ensure alignment with the latest technical and regulatory standards. Learners will complete one written assignment, one practical assignment, and two online exams (covering a core Heat Pump Unit and a dedicated ASHP Unit).

This course is intended for experienced professionals working in the plumbing and heating industry.

Specific Entry Requirements:

  • Must be a qualified Plumber, Gas Safe Registered Engineer, OFTEC Registered Oil Operative, or current MCS installer

  • Must also hold:

    • Water Regulations qualification

    • Unvented Hot Water Systems qualification

This course will cover the technical principles, installation requirements, and maintenance procedures for ASHP systems.

  • System components and operational principles

  • Installation and maintenance requirements

  • Integration with heating and hot water systems

  • Carbon Zero technologies and best practices

  • Practical workshop training on pipework and system components
