Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism
SERC is excited to present the newly launched Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism, designed to give students the knowledge and skills that are required to work in the Travel and Tourism industry, delivered over 2 years.

We have 3 sessions available for application on this course in Lisburn, Downpatrick, Bangor.
Ideal if you want to develop your knowledge of the different components within the sectors of Travel and Tourism and undertake employment as an Events Manager, Visitor Attraction Manager, Hotel Manager, Travel Agent, Tour Operator or a in a career in an Airport, Airline or as a member of Cabin Crew.
The field trips and residential study visits that you will take part in on this course, will allow you to gain a true insight into the Travel and Tourism sector.
You will learn the importance of the Customer Experience in Travel and Tourism, develop your research skills by completing the Researching Current Travel Trends and Key Issues module and how to develop your own Travel and Tourism Business in the Travel and Tourism Enterprise module.
This course is equivalent to 2 A Levels. The course consists of 8 units, 6 Mandatory units and 2 external exam units which enable you to study particular areas in depth.
Core units include:
- Sustainable Tourism
- Work Experience
- Principles of Marketing in Travel & Tourism
- Managing the Customer Experience in Travel
- Researching Current Travel Trends and Key Issues in Travel and Travel & Tourism
- Travel & Tourism Enterprise.
External Exam Units include:
- World of Travel & Tourism and Global Destinations
- Global Destinations
You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy or Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing.
Class learning will be supplemented with the use of guest speakers and visits to local travel, tourism and hospitality providers.
International residentials may be available for you to apply for in your second year of study.
You will need:
- OCN NI Level 2 Traineeship in Travel and Tourism (min 8 credits at merit or above) or
- a BTEC L2 Diploma or
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above
GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above or equivalent e.g. Essential Skills is desirable.

- Researching Current Travel Trends and Key Issues in Travel and Tourism & Tourism

Once you have successfully completed this two-year course, progression to roles in the Travel and Tourism industry include roles in human resources, event and visitor attraction organisations, the cruise sector, marketing, ticketing, tour operations or within a retail or business travel agency.
Upon completing the course, learners may progress to a Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/D) or a Foundation Degree (FD) in Travel and Tourism at university
