South Eastern Regional College (SERC) students from the Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment and Level 3 Civil Engineering courses took their learning on site with a visit to the Bangor Marine construction project.

Hosted by the Bangor Marine team and the construction contractors, MSM Contracts Ltd, the students got a first-hand insight into the redevelopment of one of the most famous parts of Bangor.

Simon Cummings, Deputy Head of School for the Built Environment said, “We were delighted to visit Bangor Marine to hear about the reimaging of Bangor’s waterfront. This is undoubtedly one of Northern Ireland’s most ambitious regeneration projects and it is on the doorstep of many of our students.

“The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for our students to reinforce textbook theory with the realities of a site visit. They had the opportunity to see the industry techniques in action, learn about the different materials being used at the site and gained an insight into the challenges of building at the edge of the waterfront.”
