NICMAC is one of the largest and most well-established dance and fitness competitions in Northern Ireland. In this year’s competition, SERC students achieved a combined total of six first places, five second places and two third places across ten categories.
In the Contemporary Dance Senior Large Team category of the competition, SERC students worked together to achieve first place.
Aside from coming out on top in a group category, the SERC students also showed their expertise in senior pairs categories. In the Lyrical Pairs category, students Hope Kerr (17, Newtownards) and Ryan McCarragher-Reilly (17, Lisburn) achieved first place. In the Contemporary Pairs category, students Madison Richmond (17, Carrickfergus) and Lucy Simpson (16, Dromore) scooped second place. In the Jazz Pairs category, students Sophie Bradley (18, Bangor) and Madison Richmond picked up third place.
More good news followed for the SERC students in the solo categories. In the Year 13 Lyrical Solo category, Chloe Parker (17, Belfast) claimed first place, with Hope Kerr taking second place and Ryan McCarragher-Reilly achieving third place. In the Year 14 Anything Goes Solo category, students Molly Cousins (17, Newtownards) and Sophie Bradley delivered outstanding performances and achieved first and second place respectively.
On top of all the success so far, Lucy Simpson won the Year 13 Contemporary Solo category, while Hope Kerr came first in the Year 13 Jazz Solo category. Lucy Whyte (17, Bangor) achieved second place in the Year 14 Lyrical Solo category and Caitlin Reynolds (17, Carrickfergus) earned second place in the Year 14 Contemporary Solo category.
SERC Lecturer in Performing Arts and Dance Rachael Tsang comments “The SERC Performing Arts department is very proud of how all the students represented the college. Their focus and work ethic were evident on the day, and these results acknowledge the progress they have made over the course of the year.”
