South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is gearing up for Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week which this year runs from 26 to 30 April. Led by the Department for the Economy, the annual celebration raises the profile of apprenticeships across Northern Ireland and provides a platform for SERC to celebrate the college’s partnerships with employers in supporting the next generation of professionals.
Most of the events this year are run online, with SERC hosting a series of virtual activities which will highlight what is on offer for young people considering the apprenticeship route, for their parents, and for employers who want to grow and strengthen their business with an apprentice.
William Greer, Chief Training and Contracts Officer at SERC says
“Apprenticeship Week is a key event in the College calendar which allows us to share success stories from some of the 1100 apprentices who choose SERC to gain their Apprenticeship qualifications and some of the 750 employers who work in partnership us to offer apprenticeships in subjects ranging from Accountancy to Childcare, from Catering to Plumbing, from Fire and Security Systems to Pharmacy Services.”
Events include presentations by guest speakers from industry, “Ask Me Anything” live Q & A sessions with apprentices and employers, and free Continuing Professional Development sessions with some of the biggest names in fire security, plumbing and heating and heating technology suppliers - namely AICO, Baxi and Danfoss.

SERC is the lead for the Apprentice Mentoring Project, financed under the Challenge Fund, working in partnership with all six FE Colleges across NI to develop a programme and resources to help employers to better understand how apprenticeships work, and how to support their apprentices to learn and contribute to their business.
In addition, the College is working in partnership with H & J Martin and the Automatic Door Suppliers Association to develop new apprenticeships for the Automated Entrances Industry.
