Did you know that the Students’ Union hosts its very own Health and Wellbeing Hub? This is a space for discussing all aspects of student health and wellbeing, as well as a library of resources, wellbeing tools and useful contacts. Every week students can access “Mindfulness Monday” and “Wellbeing Wednesday” on the Hub.

This month's theme is men's health to coincide with the Students' Union's Movember fundraiser. The work of the Movember charity focuses on three areas of men’s health: testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health and suicide prevention.

Testicular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer form among young men in the UK and prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. On the Health and Wellbeing Hub, students can find information about the importance of self-examination and checking your risk of developing these types of cancer.

The Hub is also highlighting the importance of looking after one’s mental health and speaking up when in crisis. Suicides rates are consistently higher among men than in women, which suggests that young men may have a difficult time coming forward when in need of support. Students can access an interactive tool via the Health and Wellbeing Hub which teaches them the skills required in order to approach difficult conversations with confidence.
